Recently graduated with a Master’s degree in composition from WPUNJ and featured in the documentary "Viaje de la Marimba" about the Colombian Marimba, award-winning musician Dan Neville brings a distinctive touch to piano instruction that sets him apart in the world of music education. Based in the vibrant music scene of New York City, Dan brings a rich tapestry of expertise in Latin music, jazz, and classical genres. Despite his busy schedule as a performing and recording artist, Dan is committed to sharing his knowledge with students who exhibit drive, integrity, and a strong work ethic.

  • In his teaching practice, Dan covers a diverse range of instruments, including piano, guitar, vibraphone, marimba, and hand percussion, catering to students of all ages, including beginners.
  • Beyond instrumental instruction, Dan imparts his knowledge of Latin Jazz theory, emphasizing the incorporation of rhythmic elements into composition and improvisation. His focus on Afro-Cuban folkloric rhythms, such as clave theory, independence, rhythmic conversation, and the use of syncopated rhythms, sets his teaching apart.

With experience in private lessons, workshops, and classroom settings, Dan has conducted workshops for high school students, demystifying salsa, clave understanding, and percussion instruments. He led an ensemble at William Paterson, introducing his peers to Colombia’s Pacific Coast music, exploring syncopated rhythms like currulao, juga, and aguabajo. Dan's versatility extends to bebop, and he has shared his expertise with vibraphonists internationally (US, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and more) guiding them in building technique and improvisation skills in the jazz bebop style.
